I would laugh to myself and say people were crazy exept...

This just happens to be true. I picked up a copy of the local rag: The Independent a mostly lefty free weekly that reports what the local papers and TV aren't. I almost choked when I read about Colorado Amendment 48. This is an amendment to the Colorado Constitution that goes so far as to state that a person is a person at the moment of fertilization of the egg...not implantation (the definition of pregnancy BTW - without which there presumably wouldn't be a person, but I get a head of myself). If this law passes any contraceptive that uses hormones to prevent pregnancy will be banned in this state, a woman with an ectopic pregnancy will have to wait until her life is in danger or the person in her dies suffering unnecessarily in the process. Whatever your "life" politics are I can't believe that some people are actually trying to pass this. This is sheer lunacy and relegates all women to being third class citizens behind their husbands and children. They have no control over their own medical care, their own contraceptive choices and in the end to a certain degree her own health once a child is conceived.

Now any woman who has had a child knows that there is some risk involved and to some degree they will not have control over their own bodies but even in the event of complications hopefully they have chosen an OB or midwife who will assist them in having as much choice over what decisions are made in the situation as possible.

Advocates for the law say that no one is taking the law to the extreme just they want to turn over Roe V Wade and a supreme court decision from 1965 allowing hormonal contraception to be legal. But....Anyone, who has spent anytime in a conservative area (Colorado Springs perhaps?) knows that people are going to ride this to the hills. If this law is passed the state of Colorado will join El Salvadore, Nicaragua and Chile as having the most draconian definition of "Life".

Oy!!! I need to move!
