The Fireman's Parade

So, in our town we have two big parades a year: The Dairy Parade - which celebrates all things cow, and The Fireman's Parade - which celebrates people who serve our small community.  The Fireman's Parade has a special place in my heart because to me, it's more American than apple pie.  It never fails to bring a tear to my frequently cynical eye.  The parade started as a way of the town throwing a party for the volunteer firemen and women, who are our only fire and rescue in town.  Over the years our fire department has included not only volunteer firepersons from all over the state but also all of the services in town: police, sheriff, tow trucks, garbage pick up, roofing, water services etc.  The entire town turns out and stands and applauds these people without whom the town just wouldn't work and it is a sight to see.  This year the Homer Teachers had a float and kids and grandkids of teachers were invited to march.  CR was absolutely thrilled to be a part of a parade for the second time this week.
