Well, we came, we waited in line for almost an hour, we voted. While I commend Colorado for expediting the process as much as they could, the ballot was ridiculously long. CR had a moment of panic this morning that we were going to meet Barack Obama at his house (not sure where this came from) but she panicked. She calmed down once I just explained to her that we were just going to the mall.
I wanted to share two parts of CR and my experience in early voting.
First, this was the first time that we have been able to early vote and the first time that I have used the computerized voting system. There were a few things I didn't like about the computer. I can see where people who are not used to using a computer would struggle, I had to go back twice to check answers because the "review" section did not have all the information that I used to categorize my votes. Second, there is NO privacy voting this way. They had 30 machines squeezed together in a room the size of my living room. Between CRs stroller and the gentleman in the wheelchair next to me we had effective gridlock. Despite the ~9inch barriers on the sides of the monitor you were uncomfortably close to those around you. Call me a New Yorker but this was a little cozy for me. Maybe I'm becoming claustrophobic?
Finally, I overheard an older gentleman on the phone with someone while we were waiting for our McD's after voting. Meg and Sarah, remember mom's treats? Well, after waiting in line for ever and mommy voting for ever, CR got her treat - a Happy Meal. Mother of the Year I am not but it made her happy. He was giving instructions on voting to someone and discussing his decisions. He said, "I did vote for Obama, it was really, really hard. But I knew it was the right thing to do." I honestly almost hugged the man. Hopefully, people will do the right thing. All we can do now is wait!
